The Derwent Valley Community Winds was formed in 2016 to provide an opportunity for musicians to continue to develop their instrumental and ensemble skills in a fun and welcoming atmosphere and, for those aspiring to play at a very high level, to facilitate their transition into the Derwent Valley Concert Band.
Since its formation, the band has been conducted by Andrew Castles, an experienced educator and a fine musician. During the year, the band performs at several events both in its own right and combined with the Derwent Valley Concert Band – at the organisation’s Annual Gala Concerts, the Derwent Valley Autumn Festival, open garden events, the Collinsvale Market, and the Hobart Twilight Market. The band also participates in the Tasmanian Bands League State Championships.
Rehearsals are held every Monday night, 7pm to 8:30pm, at our band rooms in the Memorial Hall, Circle Street, New Norfolk. Please bring along your own instrument – percussion instruments provided.
