2015 Tour to Europe

DERWENT VALLEY CONCERT BAND’S EUROPE TOUR 2015

IT’S BEEN SAID BEFORE – “IF YOU JOIN THE DERWENT VALLEY CONCERT BAND YOU WILL HAVE OPPORTUNITIES TO SEE THE WORLD!”

On June 14th this year, the Band will embark on its ninth overseas concert tour – as proud ambassadors again for the banding community in Tasmania and in fact the whole of Australia.

Preparations are well underway for what promises to be another epic journey for the Band.

The first stopover will be Barcelona. From there the Band will travel north to Malgrat de mar, a delightful seaside resort where several performances will be presented during the three days being spent there. It will be the DVCB’s first visit to Spain and everyone is looking forward to a great experience.

From Spain the Band will fly to Rome and will travel by coach to Terranuova in Tuscany which will be the Band’s base for the next six days. Performances are scheduled in a number of locations in Tuscany over that period, which will include performing together with local bands as well!

After the Tuscany experience the Band will travel to Nuremberg for an overnight stopover en route to Hildesheim which is near to Hanover in Germany. The DVCB will be hosted by the Hildesheim Music School and will perform in an evening concert with the Senior Symphonic Wind Band from the School in their Auditorium. The next day the DVCB will travel to Rastede, further north in Germany, to participate and compete – over the next four days – in the European Band Championships, a sanctioned event of WAMSB (World Association Marching Show Bands).

The DVCB last visited Rastede and competed in this event in 2008 – gaining many awards.

The host families who generously hosted us in their homes in 2008 are eagerly waiting to spoil us again on our return visit!

Following Rastede, the DVCB will travel to Copenhagen to compete and give on- stage performances in the World Championship event of WAMSB and will also participate in the inaugural Performing Arts Festival of Copenhagen. The Band’s last visit was in May, 2004 when guest performances were presented as part of the celebrations surrounding the Royal Wedding of Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary.

The DVCB returns to Australia on 6th July.
